Following the “Make-A-Stand” London Festival of Architecture 2012 competition to design a bike stand for the Groucho Club in Soho, London organised by Ballingdon Mill, in association with Grimshaw and The Groucho Club, Juliet was instructed to obtain planning consent for the proposed stands. The competition called for submissions to develop an exemplary object of industrial design, which could provide secure bike parking within a specified budget, fully commissioned including planning and installation.
68 entries were received with the judges’ shortlisting designs that exemplified efficient material use and durability. Three designs were recommended for potential development of which Ribbon Rack designed by Emma-Kate Matthews was chosen to build and install.
Juliet prepared the design and access satement, coordinated and submitte the planning application and has been negotiating with the planning and highways officers through to determination. The application was approved by Westminster City Council on 28th June 2013.
